Membership

New members are always welcome, just come along to one of our monthly meetings at the RAFA club. You can even 'try us out' for a few months before you decide on joining as an official member. The meetings are informal (there's a bar!) and the club members are (mostly) friendly, approachable and happy to pass on guidance and information to anybody interested in bonsai- whatever your level of experience.

Have you seen these people?

On the weekend of the 15th & 16th of September a rather unpleasant disturbance was reported by colleagues on the continent and a warning bulletin has subsequently been forwarded to other groups around Europe.
-
Following reports of their 'activities' a large reward has been offered for any information regarding the whereabouts of the people seen here. They are to be considered dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

They were last seen at a clandestine meeting held somewhere in the dark underbelly of the Belgian countryside -all clutching large quantities of Leffe brune and waving the insignia that hung around their necks, a sign of membership of the 'brethren'.
-
Please look out for them, while ensuring that you guard your shrubberies well.

Andy Hardman judged the entrants giving it to Les Storey with Ian's a close second.

September Meeting- Speaker -Ian Warhurst

The meeting started with Ian thanking everyone who was involved in putting together and helping at the Gordale Show.

Advice was then given on fertiliser and pruning which is low Nitrogen feed and start pruning Juniper's and Pine's, we can repot Juniper's and do some heavy wireing.

He then went on to prune a Shore Pine into a Literati style as highlighted below.

Bonjour, je suis de retour

Just as I return, a lot of the members leave for an entertaining weekend together (??) at the Ginkgo show.

Hope you all have a wonderful time & don't get too p***ed. --- ;)

Bring back plenty of thoughts, critical insight or merely gossip so they can be put on the blog.

---and best of luck to Lee.

Voyez-vous bientôt

Bonsai Site of the Month -September

This months site covers what it descibes as 'THE COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY OF BONSAI AND THE RELATED ARTS : AN ECLECTIC, ONGOING PRESENTATION'

You'll find a list of links that can transport you to what initially appears to be a wordy world of 'stuff from the past.'

One highlight for me is the bonsai's as depicted in Japanese paintings, scrolls and woodblock prints.

Worth a look!
