HI Guys, you may already be aware of the big event taking place at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for the weekend of Easter, 2009 (April 11th and 12th)
This is the biggest event to take place in the UK for many a long year and we should support it at all costs… we gotta put a big event in the UK high on our ‘to do’ list. I am the tree selector for the North west and North Wales.
The procedure is as per above.
I will be attending Wirrals show so you guys can have trees selected at that event. Plus the Burrs event in November will be the last chance to have trees selected.
Please pass this document around your clubs and lets show the rest of the UK what we have here in the North West and North Wales
Best Regards
Tony Tickle

So.......do it now......don't be a plonker and miss out on the chance to work alongside Marco.
New Poll
As its now coming towards the end of spring (the Met office definition is 1st March to 30th May!) I thought it was nearly time to start a new poll.
The current one, your favourite season seems to have turned out to be a runaway win for Spring (some would say predictably.) So anybody who hasn't voted & wishes to change the outcome (?) you've got until the 30th.

Tree of the Month- May
ToTM this month was chosen by Doug and he selected Bill's Silver Birch. Described by Bill as being 'temperamental' with its propensity to shed branches at the drop of a hat (or should that be leaf!!) he still perseveres and is rewarded by the delicate image that can be seen in Brian's photo.
(I myself enjoy the various delights of SB ownership and like Bill, feel they are worth the bother.)

Walk in the Woods -May 08
"Walk in the Woods is the Tree Council's month-long festival to encourage everyone to enjoy trees and woods in spring. Across the UK, walks, talks and other events take place in town and countryside throughout May - a great month to go down to the woods or to a local park or just enjoy tree-lined streets. Spring flowers, birdsong and fresh green leaves make them particularly inviting.
Walk in the Woods month is a great time to organise an event and get new people interested in trees - especially in their local patch. A particular aim of Walk in the Woods is to attract people who rarely, if ever, visit woods - even those on their doorstep."

Bonsai Site of the Month -May
This months website is dedicated to all lovers of Kusamono and the art of the accent plant. The gallery is worth a visit and there is also some discussion on Japanese Aesthetics (an interesting item on Wabi-Sabi!!) and the art of presentation.
There is also an article on KEI D0- a new term... for me anyway.
Literally translated, Kei Do means the Way of VIEWING. The school of Kei Do teaches the long-time traditions, conventions and disciplines which have brought bonsai, grass planting, suiseki (viewing stones) and the art of display to the confines of a room, specifically the tokonoma, or alcove.
So...... not just something for Andy then.......!!

Membership
New members are always welcome, just come along to one of our monthly meetings at the RAFA club. You can even 'try us out' for a few months before you decide on joining as an official member. The meetings are informal (there's a bar!) and the club members are (mostly) friendly, approachable and happy to pass on guidance and information to anybody interested in bonsai- whatever your level of experience.
