Membership

New members are always welcome, just come along to one of our monthly meetings at the RAFA club. You can even 'try us out' for a few months before you decide on joining as an official member. The meetings are informal (there's a bar!) and the club members are (mostly) friendly, approachable and happy to pass on guidance and information to anybody interested in bonsai- whatever your level of experience.

World Bonsai Photo Contest

WORLD BONSAI PHOTO CONTEST
In 2008 you were notified of the WBFF International Photo Contest, albeit at a rather late date to expect to receive  large numbers of entries from the UK. I was asked to retrieve, rather belatedly, a situation which had been outside the control of FOBBS and to take on the task of obtaining entries from the European Region. I should have had 12 months in which to do this task and in the event I had just two. Despite this, and with your co-operation, I did succeed in getting 25 entries for this competition; 10 of those entries came from the UK. In 2009 the competition was judged and 20 of the European photos were displayed at the World Convention held that year in Puerto Rico. Subsequently the new WBFF President, Mr Hu from China, offered to publish a book containing all those judged to be “winning trees”, some 170 trees in all. This book was produced by November of last year and free copies were available for all those whose trees appeared among the pages.

These books were available for us to collect while at the ASPAC Convention in Takamatsu, Japan last November, and extremely heavy they were to bring home (in our case 20 copies for the UK & Europe).

I am attaching the Poster, Requirements for entry, and the Entry Form itself. I hope you will print these out and  consider entering one of your trees. As proven by ‘Best of British’ and other shows staged in the UK, we have some amazing trees, and so, with plenty of time to get our acts together, lets show the rest of the World Bonsai public what we are capable of.
